About Wheelside
Built in Falkirk. Mostly by asking, “Could we actually make that work?”
Built in Falkirk
About Wheelside
Wheelside Trading started with a fairly simple idea: build interesting things, sell good things, and create experiences that give people another reason to get out and explore the places around us.
I'm Simon, the person behind Wheelside. I'm based in Falkirk, a stone's throw from the Falkirk Wheel, and most of what you see here has grown from things I've genuinely wanted to make, try or experience myself.
That includes physical products and local goods, but increasingly it means Adventures.
I loved the idea that a normal walk could become something completely different. Put your headphones in, follow a real route and have a story unfold around you as you move through it. Your location becomes part of the experience. Reach a place and another piece of the story comes alive.
So we started building it.
Adventures
From Canada Wood outward
Canada Wood became our testing ground.
We walked the paths, recorded routes, plotted GPS points and started building stories around the landscape. Some are atmospheric. Some are funny. Some are for families. Some are decidedly not for children.
The idea isn't to stare at your phone while somebody tells you where to turn every thirty seconds. The technology should disappear into the walk.
You explore. The story finds you.
And we're still learning. Real people walk our routes, tell us what worked, tell us what absolutely didn't, and we make the next version better.
Where we're heading
More than one kind of adventure
Wheelside isn't built around one story or one type of customer.
A single route might carry a historical tour, a children's adventure, a mystery, a horror story or something created by somebody who knows that place better than we ever could.
That's a big part of where we're heading: giving other people a way to turn their own stories and local knowledge into experiences people can actually step inside.
Wheelside Trading
And the Trading bit?
That's deliberate.
Wheelside Trading isn't supposed to fit neatly into one box. There are products, local goods, digital projects, food and whatever interesting thing we decide is worth building next.
Some ideas will be sensible.
Some will begin with “This might be ridiculous, but…”
Those are often the interesting ones.
Made in Falkirk. Built to be used in the real world.
And we're only getting started.
